Next Steps / Once You Are Admitted ...

1. Confirm Your Intent to Enroll at NIU

See MyNIU Procedures for instructions on how to access MYNIU.

Use MyNIU to confirm your enrollment:  See your MyNIU "To Do" list for the confirmation instructions.

  • Admitted students access MyNIU to confirm.
  • After Log In, click on "Self Service".
  • Next click on "Student Admission".
  • Then click "Accept Admission" to choose "accept or decline" of the admissions offer.
  • Click "Accept" to confirm intent to enroll at NIU.

Check the MyNIU "To Do" list for any required final supporting documents still required by NIU Admissions.

  • NIU Admissions must receive notification of your intent to enroll for the Fall 2010 term by May 1, 2010.
  • If you do not confirm your attendance by May 1, you may forfeit your place in the Fall 2010 freshman class.
    • Freshmen must confirm enrollment to be invited to a new student Freshman Orientation program for initial NIU college academic advisement and course registration for their first semester classes on campus.
    • An admitted and confirmed Freshman is eligible to make a reservation for new student Freshman Orientation, once the reservation period for the admitted semester opens, as announced by the Orientation Office.
  • If you applied for, but cannot attend the Fall 2010 semester, we will hold your official transcripts and other supporting documents received at NIU Admissions for one year.  After that time, an applicant must submit new updated official transcripts and supporting documents from all institutions attended in support of any new application.
    • Students seeking to change admissions consideration from Fall 2010 semester and to be considered by NIU Admissions for Spring 2010 or Summer 2010 terms instead, must submit a new, completed online application for the term desired, but need not submit another application fee if it was paid previously for Fall 2010 consideration.
    • Students who desire to enter NIU after Fall 2010 semester, must submit a new application and application fee for the upcoming new year, once the new application for the 2011 year semesters becomes available.

2.  Admitted Freshmen must submit a final official high school transcript, upon High School graduation, to be COMPLETE in final MyNIU admissions status.

Official high school or college transcripts are copies of a student's permanent academic record at a particular institution, and must be received at the NIU Admissions Office in their as issued original, sealed, institutional envelope under the seal of the Registrar or Records Office of the issuing institution.

  • Admitted & Confirmed Freshman students will be considered admitted to NIU for enrollment, but incomplete in final status, considered as Admitted Incomplete status, until their final official high school transcript showing final completed grades and the date of high school graduation is received at NIU Admissions.
  • Contact your high school main office/counselor guidance office in advance, to order a final official high school transcript with a posted date of high school graduation sent to NIU Admissions, once it becomes available following high school graduation.
  • The status will be changed to Admitted Complete on your MyNIU page after receipt of the final official high school transcripts at NIU Admissions, pending outcome of a final review and evaluation of attained academic requirements for an NIU admission.
  • Admitted confirmed Freshman students must also submit final official transcripts from any colleges or universities attended, or for college courses offered at their high school and taken in conjunction with a college or university.  Contact the Records Office/Registrar Office of the college or university attended to order final official college transcripts sent to NIU Admissions for college course credit evaluation and review.
