Instructions and Procedures To Access MYNIU
- New applicants and students, read this information to:
- Learn to access the MYNIU portal.
- Learn to look up & find your AccountID/Z-ID number using your name.
- Learn about using your initial, temporary Password to get started,
- Learn to create a new, private Password. You can change Passwords too!
- Contact the NIU Information Technology Services ( ITS) Helpdesk for technical assistance if you encounter access problems
- Click on Access MYNIU to read the instructions and start procedures to enter the MYNIU portal...
- Then, Sign In to the MYNIU portal using your AccountID/Z-ID & Password.
- Confirm your intention to enroll for your NIU Admissions Offer.

An Overview of the MYNIU Information Update Process...
- NIU Admissions sends an acknowledgment email to you, typically within 2 weeks of receiving your Freshman application, with information and instructions to set up your MYNIU account. If you do not have an email address, you will be mailed an application acknowledgment letter with the MYNIU instructions and procedures.
- Upon receiving your application acknowledgment email or letter, you are then authorized to gain access to the MYNIU site to check your admission application status online.
- The email or letter will authorize and assist you with setting up your MYNIU account. Once activated, you may check and monitor your application status continuously from start to final decision.
- If you access MYNIU prior to receiving your acknowlegment email or letter, the site may not yet be posted with your information or completed with updates.
- Updates are added continuously as received, require processing time and are not instantaneous. Please be patient and monitor your MYNIU site for status updates at least weekly.
- You will need to set up a Password and Z-ID account in order to access the MYNIU site. Follow the instructions in your acknowledgement email or letter for setting up your Password and Z-ID.
- You will also be able to Confirm your intention to enroll on your MYNIU pages, if offered admissions to NIU.
- Be sure all required Freshman application materials are requested and sent directly to the Office of Admissions to support your application. Admissions processing requires completed applications with the fee or qualified fee waiver, official transcripts, official ACT and /or SAT test scores and any other specifically identified items, to be received at NIU Admissions prior to any established priority filing dates or announced deadlines.
- Any outstanding documents that are necessary to process your application will be on your "To Do List" on your MyNIU page. Allow a minimum of 3-4 weeks time from the date you have applied, ordered a document or test score to be sent to NIU for it to arrive and to be updated on your MYNIU page. Processing time can vary and may be longer during peak application periods.
- Your MYNIU account will be continuously updated with receipt of new documents and information through a final admissions decision for your semester of application. Check your MYNIU site frequently for updates.
